Lavender is a relaxing nervine that eases tension and anxiety. It benefits those individuals who are high-strung, nervous, stressed, and anxious. It helps people who need to relax. It lifts mood, and is mildly antidepressant. Lavender has a mild analgesic affect and can help to ease headaches and migraines when taken soon after onset. The essential oil of lavender is anti-fungal and has many topical applications that it can assist with.
Lavender is a sedative, diuretic, carminative, antiseptic, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory herb that has been medically used for centuries. Aside from headaches and migraines, lavender is known to help relieve anxiety, depression, insomnia, dizziness, bloating, indigestion, flatulence, hypertension, asthma, and reduce symptoms from colds, flu and fever.
Lavender has significant phytochemical, and antioxidant properties-- it can prevent oxidative stress in the brain and improve cognitive impairment, plus it can help to support brain function.
Topically, lavender promotes healthy skin and hair. It contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can help heal skin conditions and reverse signs of ageing. It’s also been known to significantly improve alopecia when massaged into the scalp daily.
To make a tea use 1 TBS per 2 cups water. You may also infuse 3 TBS in 24-32 oz of purified water for 24 hours. Let sit in the sun during the day while infusing.
