Atlantic sea dulse if a form of red algae which contains an abundant mixture of minerals. Dulse is very nutrient rich. Some of the minerals found in dulse are calcium, potassium, magnesium, and iron--all of which contribute to bone mineral density. Minerals like these can also help protect joints and tissues, which I like because they are known to help stave off conditions such as osteoporosis. Atlantic sea dulse can also contribute to lowering blood pressure as it contains potassium in abundance. Potassium is well known as a vasodilator, which means that it can help reduce any strain and damage to blood vessels and arteries caused by high blood pressure. Atlantic sea dulse is rich in vitamin A which can help protect my eyes from macular degeneration, plus it can also help slow down the development of cataracts. The vitamin C in dulse helps my body to increase its white blood cell count, and keeps my immune system in check. Dulse is high in iodine, which keeps my thyroid behaving normally, plus it is also abundant in iron, which helps the production of my hemoglobin, and improves my circulation while staving off anemia.
Medical Medium says that this edible seaweed binds to lead, aluminum, copper, cadmium, and nickel-- it’s a powerful tool for removing those heavy metals, plus mercury from my body. Atlantic dulse has the ability to go deep into hidden places of my digestive tract and gut, seeking out toxic heavy metals, in effort to remove them. Medical Medium suggests eating 2 tablespoons of dulse flakes daily, or an equal amount of strips (if it’s in its whole leaf form). Medical Medium also notes that since dulse comes from the ocean, some people may have concerns about mercury being contained in the dulse itself. Not to worry, as dulse will not release any mercury it might possess. He says that the dulse hangs out near the finish line (the colon), waiting for the other foods that have been grabbing onto heavy metals along the way as well. It serves as the emergency backup, helping ensure that all the heavy metals that made it as far as the colon actually leave the body.
