Bladderwrack is a piece of seaweed. It's scientific name is Fucus veiculosus. This seaweed is the most found type of plant in the ocean today, and provides easily assimilable trace minerals for the thyroid. Because bladderwrack is a sea-based plant, it has a lot of iodine in its make-up. Iodine-based products have been proven to treat thyroid issues. Medical Medium says this iodine acts as a viral antiseptic, especially against the Epstein Barr virus, and it's viral cells will die off and ultimately enhance the thyroid's function. Bladderwrack also removes toxic heavy metals from the intestinal tract, which helps starve EBV.
If I was struggling with any thyroid issues, I would bring in small amounts of bladderwrack tea into my life. 1 teaspoon of herb steeped in 8 ounces of hot filtered water for 30 minutes, before straining. I would consume this daily.
I would not consume bladderwrack if I was on anti-platelet medication.
