This dried herb is particularly useful for calming gastrointestinal inflammation and supporting the restoration of damaged mucosa. Plantain leaf has astringent properties, and also has the ability to form a protective barrier over mucus membranes, which can help to relieve pain and inflammation. Plantain leaf is also helpful in easing diarrhea. If I was suffering with conditions which practitioners diagnose as IBS, “leaky gut”, “intestinal permeability”, ammonia permeability, colitis, esophagitis, or gastrointestinal ulcers, I would bring plantain leaf into my daily herbal infusions. Plantain leaf has the ability to remove toxic heavy metals out of the body.
Plantain leaf contains inflammation-modulating properties, which works to soothe respiratory allergies and asthma. Plantain leaf also contains diuretic properties, and is noted to be an herb which helps promote the elimination of metabolic waste. If I was dealing with urinary tract issues, or interstitial cystitis, I would be sure to bring plantain leaf into my daily protocol.
