Carrot seed oil is full of many amazing health benefits, and we are going to share with you just how important it is for our skin, why we use virgin, cold pressed, wild harvested carrot seed oil and why we use it in our Sunshield Salve.
Carrot seed oil contains carotenoids that protect skin from UV damage and help to rejuvenate sun damaged skin. Isn’t that awesome that the oil from the seeds of a vegetable we all love actually helps protect us from harmful UV rays too? Research has shown that nutritional bioactive carotenoids can provide important additional protection against the effects of too much UV radiation. Carotenoids such as ß-carotene, lycopene, zeaxanthin, and lutein have potent antioxidant function, and are among the most effective naturally-occuring scavengers of free radicals.
You may have heard the terms organic, natural, fair-trade, eco friendly, virgin, and cold pressed, but what about wild harvested? A product that has been wild harvested means it has been collected by hand from a ‘wild’ or unmanaged ecosystem. Similar to the way hunter-gatherers would forage for food in ancient times, wild harvesting involves getting out into nature and picking native foods.
Carrot seed oil actually acts as a natural sunscreen by combating those free radicals caused by sun damage. When used with other ingredients that also have some SPF such as coconut oil, olive oil, shea butter, and red raspberry seed oil, you have a combination that can’t be beat. And, all are found in our Sunshield Salve!
